OAKVILLE, Ontario, April 17, 2019 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- The first holiday long weekend of spring is here and MADD Canada and Allstate Insurance Company of Canada are asking everyone to make it a safe one by arranging sober transportation home.
“If you’re going to be drinking or consuming drugs, please make sure you have a sober ride home,” said MADD Canada Chief Operating Officer Dawn Regan. “Driving impaired is never worth this risk, not this Easter long weekend or at any time.”
Hundreds of Canadians are killed and tens of thousands are injured in crashes involving alcohol and/or drugs every year. MADD Canada and Allstate Insurance Company of Canada are asking Canadians to prevent impaired driving crashes, deaths and injuries this Easter holiday weekend by:
- Never driving impaired;
- Never getting into a vehicle being operated by someone who’s impaired;
- Calling 911 if you see a driver you suspect is impaired.
“No one expects their world to change in seconds, as a result of a crash that injures or kills someone, but that’s exactly what can happen if you choose to get behind the wheel impaired, or ride with an impaired driver,” said Allstate Insurance Company of Canada President and CEO Ryan Michel. “These tragedies are entirely preventable if everyone makes safe and responsible decisions to arrange a sober ride home.”
Plan for safe and sober transportation this holiday weekend. Call a cab, arrange a designated driver, take public transit or check out Uber, MADD Canada’s Official Designated Driver App.
