TORONTO, April 25, 2019 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- In celebration of May is Museum Month / Mai, Mois des Musées, the Ontario Museum Association (OMA) encourages Ontarians to visit and discover over 700 museums, galleries, and historic sites across Ontario. May is Museum Month coincides with International Museum Day on May 18th, a worldwide initiative of the International Council of Museums to highlight the importance of the role of museums as institutions that serve society and its development. These events provide an opportunity to celebrate all kinds of museums, galleries, and heritage sites in Ontario. With many museums launching new exhibits and programs, and many seasonal attractions opening their doors to welcome summer tourists, the month of May demonstrates the vibrancy of our communities and new opportunities for tourists and local visitors alike.
Museums, galleries, and heritage sites are vital cultural and tourism infrastructure in every community in Ontario. These institutions are essential to supporting Ontario’s growing Culture and Tourism GDPs. In their communities, museums contribute to lifelong learning and creating distinct and vibrant places to live, work, visit, and invest.
