Signia Offers Free Hearing Screenings Nationwide in Over 30 Practices in Support of Better Hearing Month

With ‘Hear Across America,’ Signia-Affiliated Hearing Care Professionals Will Provide Free Audiology Screenings In Major Cities Nationwide Throughout May 2019

Piscataway, NJ, April 30, 2019 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- In support of Better Hearing Month, hearing aid technology leader Signia is proud to present Hear Across America, a month-long community hearing education, screening and outreach initiative. Throughout the month of May, select Signia-affiliated hearing care professionals nationwide will provide free hearing screenings and education to members of their local communities.

Signia is launching this initiative to educate the public about the silent epidemic of hearing loss among all ages, to shatter social stigmas related to hearing loss, and to emphasize the importance of early intervention and treatment.

Free hearing screenings will be offered in the following 11 cities nationwide: Atlanta, Boston, Chicago, Dallas, Detroit, Minneapolis, New York City, San Diego, Seattle, Tampa and Washington, DC.

What to Expect at a Screening

These screenings will be provided by hearing care professionals to determine the presence of hearing loss. If the hearing care professional does identify hearing loss, the individual will be advised regarding next steps for pursuing additional evaluation, as well as treatment.

For individuals who are not found to have a hearing loss, this screening establishes a valuable baseline to measure any future hearing loss.

The Silent Epidemic of Hearing Loss

According to the National Institutes of Health, 38 million Americans have hearing loss – and that number is increasing. Beyond ear injuries and infections, long-term exposure to harmful sound levels can cause hearing loss – no matter your age.

Tracey Reynolds, Vice President of Marketing at Signia, said: “Regardless of your age or line of work, proper hearing is crucial to not only our emotional well-being, but to our professional and personal lives as well. One of the biggest tools we have to fight hearing loss is education. We aim to create a conversation around early detection and the benefits of yearly audiology check-ups. Together, we can shatter outdated stigmas and take a stand against this silent epidemic.”

About Better Speech and Hearing Month

Signia joins the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) and other hearing care organizations in observing Better Hearing and Speech Month (BHSM), which is held each May to raise awareness about hearing, speech and communication disorders.
