PISCATAWAY, N.J., May 21, 2019 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- The Zhaga Consortium (Zhaga) and the Digital Illumination Interface Alliance (DiiA) have unveiled their joint Zhaga-D4i certification program, indicating plug-and-play interoperability of luminaires, sensors and communication nodes.
Combining the expertise in the two organizations, the Zhaga-D4i certification program will enable smart, future-proof LED luminaires with IoT connectivity. Initially, the focus is on outdoor lighting, but indoor solutions are also in development.
Zhaga-D4i certification will be available for outdoor LED luminaires that have a Zhaga Book 18 socket and contain D4i-certified LED drivers. Compatible sensors and wireless communication nodes with a Zhaga connector will also be eligible for Zhaga-D4i certification.
Expected to launch in the third quarter of 2019, Zhaga-D4i certification will be made available by the Zhaga Consortium to its Regular and Associate members.
All Zhaga-D4i certified products will be eligible to carry both the Zhaga and D4i logos, to give a clear indication of interoperability. The Zhaga logo and the D4i logo are trademarks of Zhaga and DiiA, respectively. All certified Zhaga-D4i products will be listed on the Zhaga website.
“The use of the Zhaga and D4i logos together on luminaires and nodes will provide clarity and confidence in multi-vendor product interoperability,” said Paul Drosihn, DiiA General Manager.
Zhaga-D4i certification is based on complementary specifications from Zhaga and DiiA, which together standardize the interface between LED luminaires and sensors and/or communication nodes. The specifications cover all the critical features including mechanical fit, digital communication, data reporting and power requirements, ensuring plug-and-play interoperability of luminaires and nodes. Zhaga-D4i combines the Zhaga Book 18 connector system (see http://bit.ly/2J43PTN) with DiiA’s D4i specifications for intra-luminaire DALI (see www.dali2.org/d4i).
“Based on open standards, the Zhaga-D4i certification program will result in value creation and reduced complexity for outdoor lighting and Smart City projects,” said Dee Denteneer, Zhaga Secretary-General.
More information on the Zhaga-D4i certification program is available in an article in the May/June issue of LED Professional Review, which is also available on the Zhaga and DiiA websites.
About DiiA
The Digital Illumination Interface Alliance (DiiA) is an open, global consortium of lighting companies that aims to grow the market for lighting-control solutions based on Digital Addressable Lighting Interface (DALI) technology. DiiA is driving the adoption of DALI-2, the latest version of the internationally-standardized DALI protocol. DALI-2 includes more product types, more features, clearer specifications and increased testing. DiiA operates the DALI‑2 certification program, bringing the promise of significantly-improved interoperability compared with current DALI systems in the market. DiiA develops test specifications for DALI-2 product compliance testing, and also creates new specifications for additional DALI-2 features and functions. About Zhaga
Zhaga is a global association of lighting companies that is standardizing interfaces of components of LED luminaires, including LED light engines, LED modules, LED arrays, holders, electronic control gear (LED drivers) and connectivity fit systems. This helps to streamline the LED lighting supply chain, and to simplify LED luminaire design and manufacturing. Zhaga continues to develop specifications based on the inter-related themes of interoperable components, smart and connected lighting, and serviceable luminaires.
