RAPS Honors Winners of Founder’s Award, Community Leadership Award and New Patient-Centered Health Award


Philadelphia, Sept. 24, 2019 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- The Regulatory Affairs Professionals Society (RAPS) today recognized five distinguished individuals and one leading advocacy organization for contributions to the regulatory profession and to promoting public health.

“The Founder’s Award is RAPS’ highest honor,” said RAPS Executive Director Paul Brooks. “It recognizes exemplary professionals who have had a substantial and sustained impact over the course of their careers, shaping regulatory policy and practice, and advancing the regulatory profession.”

The 2019 Founder’s Award winners are:

  • Alison Cave, PhD, principal scientific administrator, European Medicines Agency
  • Basil Mathioudakis, Basil Mathioudakis Consulting
  • Robert Temple, MD, deputy center director for clinical science, Center for Drug Evaluation and Research; and senior advisor, Immediate Office of the Office of New Drugs, US Food and Drug Administration (FDA)

“The Community Leadership Award recognizes RAPS members who have helped build thriving local networks, supported fellow regulatory professionals and acted as RAPS ambassadors,” said RAPS Chairman Don Boyer, BSc, RAC, FRAP.

The 2019 Community Leadership Awardees are:

  • Daniela Drago, PhD, RAC, senior director, US regulatory sciences, Biogen
  • João Duarte, associate director, regulatory intelligence, global regulatory affairs at Alexion Pharmaceuticals

Boyer announced the inaugural Patient-Centered Health Award, which recognizes organizations or individuals for making a significant impact to advance patient-centered policy, product development or regulatory decision making, was given to the National Organization for Rare Disorders (NORD), by unanimous decision of the awards committee.

All award winners were honored at the RAPS Regulatory Convergence conference in Philadelphia. The Convergence is the largest annual gathering of the global regulatory profession.
