Tampa, Fla., Oct. 31, 2019 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- BluePearl Specialty and Emergency Pet Hospital has launched a comprehensive online library to provide its Associates with clinical research and professional development tools nationwide. With the launch of the new platform, BluePearl Associates are now able to perform advanced library searches and article downloads from more than 2,000 medical and business journals.
Integrated within the library is PubMed, a comprehensive online database comprising of journals, books, and abstracts on life sciences and biomedical topics. The PubMed database is maintained by the United States National Library of Medicine at the National Institutes of Health.
“Veterinary research libraries are generally only offered within a university setting, so this is a game-changer for the industry,” remarked Tona Hunsucker, Director of Learning and Training at BluePearl. “With improved access to medical journals, we hope that our Associates will be better equipped to conduct evidence-based research and continue to grow their clinical knowledge.”
The new implementation will enrich BluePearl’s already robust research environment. BluePearl Science, a division of BluePearl, coordinates its clinical research studies, which investigate the potential effectiveness of new drugs, treatments, and/or protocols intended to improve pet health. These clinical studies offer local veterinarians and their patients’ access to treatments that are not yet commercially available.
“This accessible medical library gives our Associates the opportunity to expand both their scientific knowledge base and procedural ability,” remarked Jimmy Barr, DVM, DACVECC, Chief Medical Officer at BluePearl. “And these benefits go well beyond our hospitals. By providing our Associates with the tools they need to grow professionally, we have the potential to make profound advancements in veterinary medicine, as well as lay the clinical foundation for the next generation of practitioners,” explained Dr. Barr.
In addition to this extensive medical database, BluePearl’s House Officer programs provide interns and residents with advanced training and didactic support, including clinical case evaluations, competitive study grants, access to a study design and review committee (SDRC), and more. The SDRC provides residents support in clinical scientist training, study design, execution, evaluation, funding, statistical direction, and manuscript preparation/review for publication.
