Nokia to supply DSL Broadband Solution to the Estonian Telephone Company, Ltd.


The Estonian Telephone Company will use the Nokia system solution to initially provide fast internet access and interconnected LAN services in the capital city of Tallinn and the services will be later expanded to cover the rest of Estonia.

Nokia will deliver its Nokia D50e Digital Subscriber Line Access Multiplexer (DSLAM), a range of Nokia M ADSL network terminals, and the Nokia R300 Remote Access Node. The agreement also covers roll-out and consultation services.

Estonian Telephone Company Technical Director Mrs. Irina Morozova says: "Internet penetration in Estonia is continuing to grow at an exceptional rate and IP access is one of the fastest growing segments in our service portfolio. With Nokia's Broadband IP Access solution we will be able to offer flexible high speed Internet access to our customers, or tailored, advanced IP services."

Estonian Telephone Company is offering telecommunication connections, providing telecommunication services as well as the sale and maintenance of terminal equipment. The operator aims to provide high quality client-oriented telecommunication services.

Estonian Telephone Company is 100% owned by Eesti Telekom. 49% of shares in Eesti Telekom are divided equally between Telia of Sweden and Sonera of Finland, 27.3% of Eesti Telekom is owned by the Estonian State and the remaining 23.7% is owned by a number of other investors. Eesti Telefon's share capital in 1998 amounted to 666,9 MEEK.
