LOS ANGELES, May 1, 2000 (PRIMEZONE) -- Occidental Petroleum Corporation (NYSE:OXY) announced that its board of directors has elected Dr. Lawrence P. Meriage vice president communications and public affairs.
Since joining Occidental in 1980, Dr. Meriage has held a number of increasingly responsible positions, most recently as vice president executive services and public affairs of the oil and gas division.
Prior to joining Occidental, he was a member of the faculty for Russian and East European studies at the University of Kansas. He received his undergraduate degree in history and political science at Grove City College and holds a masters and doctorate in Russian and East European history from Indiana University.
