METSO TO SUPPLY A FINE PAPER MACHINE TO WILLAMETTE IN THE U.S.

Metso Corporation's fiber and paper technology business area Valmet will supply a fine paper machine to Willamette Industries for its Kingsport mill in Tennessee, USA, in the spring 2001. The order includes some parts manufactured for the delayed delivery to the Indonesian APRIL Group and the uncertainty related to the inventory value of this delayed delivery has now been removed.

The order comprises for example a headbox and wire, press and drying sections, a size press, a calender, a reel and the machine control system. The ordered fine paper machine, which will start-up in June 2002, is part of the expansion project of the mill and it will replace two existing smaller fine paper machines. Its wire width is 9.35 meters, and the design speed is 1 500 m/min. It will produce printing and writing papers, copy papers and offset papers.

Fiber and Paper Technology has delivered earlier several machines and machine rebuilds to Willamette Industries. The latest deliveries were fine paper machines to Hawesville Mill in Kentucky and Johnsonburg Mill in Pennsylvania.
