Nokia and Inktomi Sign Agreement to Deliver Carrier-Class Infrastructure for Mobile Internet

Inktomi Corp. (NASDAQ: INKT), developer of scalable Internet infrastructure software, and Nokia Networks (NYSE: NOK), the infrastructure arm of Nokia Corporation, today announced an agreement to deliver carrier-class infrastructure software for mobile network operators.

This agreement will enable the delivery of next-generation mobile data services and applications to both current and Third Generation networks. Together, Inktomi and Nokia will provide operators with a scalable platform for offering revenue-generating mobile services, providing mobile subscribers worldwide with high-performance, reliable access to content and applications.

“Nokia is delighted to sign this agreement with Inktomi; in this era of mobile Internet and future 3G networks we will focus on working with world-leading industry players, particularly in software and application development,” said Ari Lehtoranta, vice president Systems Integration, Nokia Networks. “As Third Generation applications and services emerge, the Nokia-Inktomi solution will become important elements of content delivery infrastructure, meeting our customers complex needs to provide advanced applications.”

Nokia will integrate the Inktomi Traffic Server network cache, deployed in the world’s largest networks as the default proxy cache, with its Nokia Artus Messaging Platform WAP Gateway and Nokia Artus MAX Platform for its Mobile Internet Service Delivery platform. The combined solution is an open standards based platform for the delivery of wireless data and will support current and emerging protocols and services.

This integration will provide mobile operators with a highly scalable and secure wireless data delivery solution designed to ensure that applications built today can seamlessly adapt to rapidly evolving standards, thereby protecting the operators' investments and their competitive position in the wireless marketplace.

“The strategic agreement with Nokia extends our firm commitment toward leadership in building the Wireless Internet infrastructure,” said David Peterschmidt, president and CEO at Inktomi. “Today’s announcement further solidifies Inktomi’s position to develop the software platform to deliver the next wave of content and commerce services for the mobile generation.”

In addition, Inktomi and Nokia will co-operate on the development of infrastructure software and applications for third generation wireless networks (3G), bringing increased speed, reliability and availability to high bandwidth mobile Internet services. With enhanced network capabilities and Quality of Service (QoS) mobile operators deploying 3G networks can take advantage of high-speed data services while reducing infrastructure and service provisioning costs.
