May 10, 2000 - Ericsson, IBM, Lotus, Motorola, Nokia, Psion, Palm Inc. and Starfish Software, founders of the SyncML initiative, announced today SyncML's official supporter program has reached a milestone of more than 150 registered supporters. SyncML initiative is also proud to announce a new, aggressive timetable for the development of the SyncML protocol.
Registered Supporters now have access to the SyncML Architecture white paper in the Supporter Area of the SyncML Website. As a result of aggressive schedules in development work and wide support in the industry, SyncML initiative now expects a variety of SyncML compliant products to be on the market as soon as early 2001.
The SyncML Initiative Delivers Architecture Document
Less than three months following SyncML's launch, the delivery of the SyncML Architecture white paper showcases the initiative's rapid pace in developing the protocol technology, enabling device manufacturers, service providers and application developers to deliver SyncML-compliant products and services as soon as early 2001. Available on the SyncML Web site, the architecture white paper contains a technical overview of the SyncML structural design. The white paper provides an insight into SyncML for supporting companies interested in developing SyncML-compliant client or server implementations.
Additional SyncML Supporters Join the Initiative
The SyncML Initiative has gained the support of more than 150 companies, representing a wide range of industries, including leading Web-based calendaring, portal, digital imaging, synchronization and wireless application technologies. New supporters include Xircom, Visto Corporation, BT Cellnet, and Corel Corporation, joining others such as Symbian, Excite@Home, Puma, Paragon, and fusionOne. Each of the supporters will work closely with the founding companies to pioneer the development, introduction and adoption of the initiative industry-wide.
"The development and adoption of SyncML will enable seamless synchronization among a variety of data and devices," said Christopher Fletcher, Aberdeen Group. "A standard for synchronization is the next logical step in the industry's push for wireless connectability and information access from any device, and will accelerate the growth and adoption of wireless devices for use across a variety of business and consumer applications."
Founded in February 2000, the SyncML initiative is committed to developing and promoting a new open industry initiative that will make the synchronization of remote data and personal information consistent across multiple networks and devices, regardless of platform or manufacturer.
