Jaakko Pöyry Group delivers alcohol plant to Russia

JPI Process Contracting Oy, which is a part of the Energy business group of Jaakko Pöyry Group, and the government-owned alcohol and wine-producing company GUP PO Tatspirtprom of the Republic of Tatarstan, have signed a contract for the delivery of an alcohol and fodder plant. The contract is worth about EUR 10 million.

The contract comprises technology, engineering and foreign machinery for the plant. Situated at Buinsk, the new plant will produce 20 million litres a year of high-quality potable alcohol and 24 000 tons a year of protein fodder, using rye as raw material.

The project has started and will be completed at the turn of the year 2001/2002. The project is scheduled to continue on the basis of the contract signed now with the signing of a supplementary contract for the supply of a gluten plant. Designed to use wheat as raw material, the gluten plant will be an integral part of the alcohol and fodder plant.

Protein fodder and gluten which are by-products of alcohol production, have not so far been recovered in Russia, so this is a new and environmentally friendly solution.
