Nokia and TRW to partner for the development of advanced Multimode 3rd Generation Base Stations


Nokia Networks, the infrastructure arm of Nokia Corporation, and TRW Inc., have agreed to co-operate on the design and development of current and 3rd Generation (3G) base station products for mobile networks.

The agreement between TRW's Space and Electronics Group and Nokia Networks, broadens the existing relationship between Nokia and TRW, which currently includes the development of products used in cellular transmission. The companies have now entered into a long-term relationship, which not only will cover the agreed joint design and development in the areas of Multimode 3G base stations, but also establishes cooperation in Internet Protocol Radio Access Networks (IP-RAN) the next step in 3G architecture. The base station products form key parts of Nokia's full mobile network system offering, for both new and current operator customers.
