Metso Corporation has acquired the last third of the share capital of Santasalo Powdermet Oy from Sitra, the Finnish National Fund for Research and Development. Santasalo Powdermet Oy was previously owned by Metso (2/3) and Sitra (1/3). The acquisition supports Metso's strategy of serving the process industry. Material technology has a central position in developing more effective processes and durable process equipment.
Santasalo Powdermet Oy is an expert in material technology and especially in powder metallurgical solutions used in machine parts manufacturing. The company employes 15 persons in Finland, Sweden and the UK. In 1999, the net sales of Santasalo Powdermet totaled EUR 6 million. Santasalo Powdermet is part of the Santasalo Group in Metso Corporation's machinery business area.
Metso's Gears and Components business group Santasalo develops, manufactures and supplies industrial gears and hydraulic motors and provides related maintenance services. The group also provides designing, manufacturing and expert services for machine construction. In 1999, the net sales of the group totaled EUR 103 million and the number of personnel was approximately 1,250.
