Nokia has signed an agreement with Yunnan Telecom to supply Nokia's D50e broadband access network to Yunnan.
The contract is for a provincial broadband access network and in the initial phase Yunnan Telecom plans to offer broadband access services in the six biggest cities in Yunnan province, including the capital Kunming. Deliveries will begin immediately and the contract includes a wide range of professional services, including system integration delivered by Nokia in cooperation with Hong Kong-based system integrator Caripac.com.
“This agreement outlines the long-term relationship between Yunnan Telecom and Nokia and will enable Yunnan Telecom to provide high speed Internet service in the whole province.” said Malcolm Arnold, Vice President, System Business, Nokia (China) Investment Co. Ltd, ”It will also further strengthen Nokia’s position as a leading end to end broadband IP access vendor in China, meeting operators’ demand for high-quality solutions and services.”
In April, Nokia’s broadband access equipment, the Nokia D50e passed the final tests of the Ministry of Information Industry (MII) and gained type approval license for China. Nokia thus became the first infrastructure manufacturer to be awarded broadband Digital Subscriber Line Access Multiplexer (DSLAM) license in China, successfully initiating Nokia’s marketing strategy for entering the high-speed Internet and broadband access fields in China.
The Nokia D50e is a flexible, two-stage DSLAM platform, which will give Yunnan Telecom the ability to provide customers with high-speed DSL services ranging up to 8 Mbps. By utilizing Nokia D50e platform Yunnan Telecom can make full use of existing network resources and coverage and provide selectable bandwidth to satisfy the increasing demand for high-speed Internet access. Working with Nokia’s other IP (Internet Protocol) products, the Nokia D50e will enable operators to establish an optimum DSL broadband access system.
