From Your Imagination to Your Phone, Nokia Raises Personalization to the Power of One

"From custom ring tones to color covers, Nokia has always been on the leading edge of personalization." said Paul Chellgren, Vice President, Business Development and Product Management for Nokia. "Each of Nokia's products is designed to act as a extension of the user's personality, and this web site is another step to offering all customers phones that are completely unique to them."
With a wide variety of design tools, including clip art, professionally designed patterns, and a text function, customers will be able to transform their Nokia phone into a reflection of their own personality. By using the online design tool, which includes point-and-click options for lines, shapes, colors and other design elements, the user can immediately watch the creation of the custom cover take place on the graphical interface. Whether people are fans of flowers or wild about animals, there is a pattern available to incorporate on their custom-designed cover. Even if the decision between modern art and monkeys is too hard to make, the flexibility of the Nokia design tool allows for them to coexist peacefully on one cover design.
Once the design is finalized using the design tool and payment is sent via a secure connection, the completed Xpress-on cover is custom produced and shipped directly to the customer in 2 to 3 weeks. Additionally, the customer may choose to submit their design for inclusion in the "phone gallery" where, if accepted by Nokia for public display, it can be seen by other users who can select the design for their own Nokia phone.
For example, a customer who coaches a pee-wee basketball team could design a cover for her phone using a basketball court background, and make it truly unique and meaningful by proudly putting the team's name at the free throw line. After the design is completed, she would then have the ability to submit her design to the phone gallery, where parents could select the team pattern designed by the coach, and further customize it by adding their child's name.
Nokia is paving the way for the Mobile Information Society with its innovative products and solutions. The company is the leading mobile phone supplier and a leading supplier of mobile, fixed and IP networks, related services as well as multimedia terminals. In 1999, Nokia's net sales totaled EUR 19.8 billion (UED 19.9 billion). Headquartered in Finland, Nokia is listed on the New York (NOK), Helsinki, Stockholm, London, Frankfurt and Paris stock exchanges and employs more than 60,000 people.
