Jaakko Pöyry Group to acquire a bridge design and construction management company in Asia

Jaakko Pöyry Infra, the Infrastructure & Environment business group of Jaakko Pöyry Group, has acquired the Asian bridge business from VCE - Vienna Consulting Engineers, Austria. The bridge business employs some 20 international and local experts with know-how in design, monitoring, and construction management of bridges, viaducts and, moreover, special know-how in cable stayed bridges. The business office is based in Taipei, Taiwan. The net sales of the acquired bridge business company amounted to approximately EUR 2 million in 1999.

Jaakko Pöyry Infra is currently involved in the Asian infrastructure business in a number of large projects in the areas of mass transit systems, railways, and urban development in Taiwan, Thailand, Indonesia, Vietnam and mainland China. Bridges and viaducts are an important element of transportation projects, often accounting for more than half of the total costs of such projects.

The acquisition strengthens Jaakko Pöyry Infra's competence in the area of bridges and increases its local market presence in major transportation projects in Asia. Jaakko Pöyry Infra is, in combination with the know-how and resources in Europe, now able to offer its global customers more extensive services both for their local markets as well as overseas operations. The new acquisition is in line with the strategy to increase Jaakko Pöyry Infra's business in Asia.

Jaakko Pöyry Infra is the Infrastructure & Environment business group of Jaakko Pöyry Group. Jaakko Pöyry Infra had net sales of EUR 97 million in 1999 and employs some 1200 persons in 15 countries.
