Nokia to supply broadband IP access solution to Jinan & Nanjing Telecom in China

Nokia has signed an agreement with Jinan & Nanjing Telecom to supply Nokia's D50e broadband access solution to Jinan & Nanjing city in China, bringing fast Internet access to subscribers.

In the Jinan contract, Nokia will supply its broadband access solution in the Jinan metropolitan areas, which accounts for the majority of the total broadband access network in the province. Nokia’s D50e solution enables Jinan Telecom to initially start with an efficient investment then scale up for extensive coverage throughout the entire province.

Nokia will also deliver D50e DSLAM to Nanjing Telecom, which serves Nanjing, the capital city of Jiangsu province on the East Coast of China.

The Nokia D50e is a flexible, two-stage ATM-based DSLAM (Digital Subscriber Line Access Multiplexer) platform, which enables operators to provide customers with high-speed DSL services ranging up to 8 Mbps. With Nokia D50e platform, operators can make full use of existing network resources and coverage and provide selectable bandwidth to satisfy the increasing demand for high-speed Internet access. Working with Nokia’s other IP (Internet Protocol) products, the Nokia D50e helps operators to establish an optimum DSL broadband access system.

"Nokia is pleased to be cooperating with Jinan Telecom and Nanjing Telecom, helping bring advanced high-speed Internet access to Chinese subscribers," said Malcolm Arnold, Vice President, System Business, Nokia (China) Investment Co. Ltd, "The Nokia solution allows operators to provide users with simultaneous access to the broadband network and traditional telephone service."

In April, Nokia’s broadband access equipment, the Nokia D50e, passed the final tests of the Ministry of Information Industry (MII) and gained an approval license for China. Nokia thus became the first infrastructure manufacturer to be awarded a broadband Digital Subscriber Line Access Multiplexer (DSLAM) license in China, successfully initiating Nokia’s marketing strategy for entering the high-speed Internet and broadband access fields in China.
