KEMIRA IBÉRICA ACQUIRES SPANISH COAGULANT PLANT FROM SOLVAY QUÍMICA

Kemira Ibérica S.A., a subsidiary of the Kemira Group, and Solvay Química S.L., a subsidiary of the Solvay Group, have signed a letter of intent to transfer Solvay's coagulant activity at Torrelavega plant to Kemira Ibérica. This agreement will be submitted to the Spanish competition authorities and it will be communicated to the local trade unions.

The coagulant produced at Torrelavega plant is 40% liquid ferric chloride and it is mainly used in waste water treatment. The annual capacity of the plant is 22 000 tonnes. The agreement includes that Solvay Química will continue production on behalf of Kemira Ibérica. There will not be any consequences to personnel operating the plant.

With this deal Kemira reinforces its' position in the coagulants business area. The acquisition is in line with the strategy of Kemira Group, whereby water treatment, the pulp & paper industry and the paint industry have been recognized as future growth areas.

Kemira Ibérica S.A. belongs to the Finnish Kemira Group. The Group's net sales were EUR 2.5 billion in 1999 and it has about 10,000 employees worldwide, with production plants in more than 40 countries.
