Nokia Selected As Innovations Winner at CES 2001

Nokia's newest mobile phone products, the Nokia model 8890 and Nokia 8200 Series have been selected as Innovations 2001 award winners at the 2001 International Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas. Innovations 2001 awards honor the best in design and engineering. Nokia (NYSE: NOK) products have been selected for the prestigious award for the last five consecutive years.

Built for the frequent traveler - and operational where network service is available on five continents and over 120 countries - the Nokia model 8890 dual band GSM 900 MHz/GSM 1900 MHz phone offers exceptional performance without compromising design. With a blue-tinted illuminated display and weighing only 3.2 ounces, the 8890 phone combines new features such as voice dialing, predictive text input and picture messaging. The matte aluminum colored cover of the Nokia 8890 makes a pleasing contrast with the chrome details of the keys and the frame around the display and reflects the next design trend - subtle colors and clean lines combined with timeless simplicity.

The Nokia 8200 Series adapts to any mood or environment with customizable, vibrating and downloadable ring tones allowing further expression of the user’s individuality. Standing less than four inches tall and weighing less than 2.8 ounces, the 8200 Series is small enough to fit almost anywhere—from a shirt pocket to a tiny purse. Offering sophisticated expression in an intelligent digital handset, the Nokia 8200 Series (available as a GSM 1900 digital or tri-mode TDMA digital phone), is targeted for users who appreciate and expect performance with striking good looks.

By bringing together a global network of highly skilled designers, mechanical and electronic engineering teams and extensive market research, Nokia continues to deliver consumers world-class designs.

Each year, members of the trade press, engineers and industrial designers evaluate the best ideas in electronic hardware and software consumer design and engineering that are submitted by manufacturers of consumer electronic products marketed in the United States. The Design and Engineering Showcase Honors recognizes categories of hardware, including accessible products, audio/video, electronic gaming, lifestyle electronics, mobile and portable electronics, multimedia, small office/home office and vehicle electronics.

The most innovative new software products for business applications, education, electronics gaming, multimedia and production and presentation are honored in the Innovations Software Showcase. Only exhibitors at Consumer Electronics Shows (CES) are eligible to participate in this prestigious recognition program. The winning design is showcased in the special Innovations display at the Winter CES.

Innovations is the most recognized awards program in the consumer electronics industry, endorsed by the Industrial Designers Society of America and sponsored and produced by the Consumer Electronics Manufacturers Association (CEMA), a sector of the Electronic Industries Association (EIA).
