Nokia to deliver GSM 900 network expansion to Shanxi Mobile Communication Corporation in China


Nokia has signed an agreement with Shanxi Mobile Communications Corporation for the expansion of its GSM 900 network in China. The expansion will increase the mobile network capacity by around 230,000 subscribers in the Taiyuan City area in northern China.

Nokia will supply and install GSM 900 expansion, including MSC and HLRi (Home Location Register). The Nokia HLRi can support up to 1.2 million subscribers. The network is expected to be operational during the first half of 2001. In addition, Nokia will provide Professional Service, including implementation.

The agreement was completed with one of Nokia's joint ventures in China, Beijing Nokia Hangxing Telecommunications Systems Co., Ltd. Nokia and Shanxi MCC have been working together on the advanced mobile network since 1997.
