Nokia securely connects Royal Greenland employees

Royal Greenland, the world's largest producer of coldwater prawns, has implemented Nokia IP network security appliances as the solution of choice to ensure quality in communications for their offices all around the world. As a result, Royal Greenland's SAP & IT manager Preben Mørch estimates that Nokia's solution will save Royal Greenland hundreds of thousands of Danish crowns compared to the costs of leased lines through using Virtual Private Networks (VPN).

Royal Greenland is a Danish-Greenlandish company with offices in Europe, Japan and US. For such a globally focused enterprise, Internet security is of vital importance. As most internal sales and marketing communications take place via e-mail and the Internet, Royal Greenland continuously upgrades its corporate network to support this development.

"Ensuring network access for our international offices required a purpose built solution with maximum scalability, zero-downtime and easy-to-use management and deployment tools," says Mr Preben Mørch, SAP & IT manager for Royal Greenland Denmark. "Nokia's appliances are simple to deploy and flexible to use, making them an obvious choice for any company looking to securely extend their corporate network. Features like browser-based management and graphical user interface make it easy for us to manage all user properties and to ensure a maximum level of network reliability and security at all times."

Nokia's solution not only brings about significant cost benefits when connecting offices. In addition, the cost savings resulting from using VPNs for remote user connectivity are remarkable.

"VPNs are ideal when it comes to extending and securing our international communications network. And this does not only concern our sales offices but also our people on the move. For example, our mobile US employees in Boston and Minneapolis can effectively work together with their colleagues who are located in Seattle."

Thanks to the flexibility of Nokia IP network security appliances, Royal Greenland can easily scale up their solution whenever needed.

"First, our employees will leverage Nokia's technology for protecting network resources through e-mail and electronic communications. However, in time we also plan to expand the implementation and use it for various e-commerce applications and administrative systems," Mr Mørch says.

Nokia is dedicated to delivering the highest of standards in security, reliability, performance and confidence for its customers needs. The Nokia IP network application platforms are designed to serve as critical network components. They deliver Internet access including virtual private networks and network security applications, such as firewall, in a high-performance package. All appliances are fully backed by Nokia's global support "First Call-Final Resolution".

"Nokia's award-winning IP network security appliances are used by a large number of the top global organisations to meet the most demanding security challenges. In 2000, Nokia established itself as a world-class market leader in corporate security infrastructure,' states Ernie Jones, vice president of sales, Europe, Middle East & Africa, Nokia Internet Communications. "Nokia continues to underline the importance of placing network security policy on the boardroom and government agendas. Royal Greenland is an example of an enterprise deploying security to ensure customer satisfaction.'
