Nokia securely extends BT Industries' corporate network with award-winning VPN

June 20, 2001 - BT Industries AB, the world's leading manufacturer of warehouse trucks, has successfully implemented a Nokia Virtual Private Network (VPN) to help their offices and mobile employees securely access its corporate network over the Internet.

BT Industries is a global company with 8000 employees and six manufacturing plants in Europe and North America. They offer a complete range of material handling equipment from hand pallet trucks to advanced counterbalance trucks. The company also provides its customers with an extensive service organization, operating 24 hours a day. These activities call for powerful communications between offices, where the Nokia VPN is a vital component supporting hundreds of users.

"We chose Nokia because they were able to meet our requirements for a cost-effective VPN with high performance," says Peter Lindqvist, Technology Manager at the IS/IT department of BT Industries.

"Another aspect that attracted us to Nokia was that the solution seemed easy to deploy, and so far we have not been disappointed. At the moment we have VPN installations running in several locations in Canada, Eastern Europe and Australia," Mr. Lindqvist continues.

Nokia has supplied BT Industries with a VPN solution including the Nokia CC2500 and Nokia CC500 gateways. Enabled by patented IP clustering, these standards-based platforms eliminate any single point of VPN failure by providing active session failover and dynamic load balancing when used in the multi-unit clustered configuration.

"The Nokia VPN solution provides today's information intensive organizations with high performance and high availability connectivity for mission critical communications," says Ernie Jones, vice president of sales, Europe, Middle East and Africa, Nokia Internet Communications. "Nokia is delighted to supply BT Industries with a scalable solution to extend their corporate network via secure site-to-site connections as well as mobile workers, business partners and suppliers, to enable increased productivity and a substantial saving over traditional leased line connections."

Nokia is committed to delivering the highest of standards in security, reliability, performance and confidence for its customers needs. Nokia's award-winning (1 VPN solutions are purpose-built platforms, designed to ensure secure connectivity across intranets, extranets, or for remote users. All appliances are fully backed by Nokia's global support "First Call-Final Resolution".

The BT Industries deployment was undertaken by Cygate, one of Nokia Internet Communications' value added resellers in Sweden.
