Singapore --- Nokia today signed an agreement with Citiraya Industries for the proper recycling and disposal of used or old mobile phones, batteries and accessories, as part of its recycling scheme - "The Future Is In Your Hands". This take-back scheme implemented in Nokia's key markets across Asia Pacific encourages customers to join Nokia and take social responsibility in making recycling a benefit for everyone by protecting the environment in which we live and work.
"At Nokia, we take an active social responsibility role. We hope to enhance awareness and promote the benefits of recycling. Through working with Citiraya, we ensure that used mobile phones, batteries and accessories disposed in our recycling bins are recycled in a safe and environment-friendly way. This is not a one-off effort, and we are committed to ensure continuous efforts and follow-up actions, as part of an on-going total quality improvement process," said Ms Hilkka Nuolioja, Head of Quality Management, Nokia Mobile Phones Asia Pacific.
Through the take-back scheme, customers are encouraged to dispose their used or old mobile phones, batteries and accessories by utilising designated recycling bins at any Nokia Care Centre to ensure that these obsolete products are properly recycled and disposed.
"Nokia, in applying its "Design for Environment" philosophy, ensures that environmental considerations such as minimising the use of materials and energy while maximising reuse and recycling by selecting environment-friendly materials and parts, are taken into account during all phases of its product creation process, " added Ms Nuolioja.
In Asia Pacific, all Nokia Mobile Phones production sites in Beijing, Dongguan and Korea have the ISO 14001 Environmental Management Systems certification, one of the most commonly used and recognised standards worldwide for an organisation to manage environmental issues in its operations.
