FLS miljø a/s, a member of the FLS Group, has just signed a turnkey contract for a flue gas desulphurisation plant to serve a 1,000 MWe coal-fired unit at the Eggborough power station near York in Northeast England. British Energy, the owner of the 2,000 MWe Eggborough power station, owns and operates a number of power stations throughout the UK, primarily nuclear facilities, with a total generating output of 14,000 MWe.
The total contract value, nearly DKK 600m, covers the supply of a 2 x 500 MWe desulphurisation plant and a complete limestone and gypsum processing system that includes grinding, conveying and water treatment. The plant is scheduled to come onstream by the end of 2004.
The new installation is based on the so-called Double Contact Flow Scrubber (DCFS) concept that
represents the latest development in desulphurisation technology for power stations. The technology has been developed in conjunction with Mitsubishi Heavy Industries of Japan.
The contract emphasises FLS miljø's standing among the foremost contenders in the European market for desulphurisation systems. It will be the twelfth major plant supplied by FLS miljø over the past ten years. The order is included in FLS miljø's sales forecast and will not impact the company's earnings prospects.
''The order will not only serve as a fine reference for FLS miljø, but also comes at a significant stage in the progression of the business, enabling it to continue its activities on a stronger footing,'' says President and CEO Preben Tolstrup, FLS miljø a/s.
