Nokia broadband DSL solutions chosen for further expansion by GuangDong Telecom, China

Nokia is to supply GuangDong Telecom, China, with an expansion to its existing broadband DSL network that currently provides fast Internet access services to nine major cities in the GuangDong province.

Nokia will supply the D50e DSLAM (Digital Subscriber LineAccess Multiplexer) and related services, having already delivered broadband DSL equipment on time to GuangDong Telecom during the initial phase of the network rollout. Deliveries have already begun. The agreement is an extension to the initial agreement for the Nokia Broadband Access solution finalised in January 2001.

The extension will bring further fast Internet access services to GuangDong, considered one of the most open and fast developing areas. GuangDong is located in southern China and includes Shenzhen, which is one of the earliest established special open economic zones in the country.

'We are very pleased to continue this relationship with GuangDong Telecom as this once again underscores Nokia's ability to deliver on time and with good support services in one of the fastest growing broadband markets in the world, ' says Andrew Page, Director, Broadband Systems, Nokia Networks China.

'We look forward to helping GuangDong Telecom expand their broadband network and reach a greater subscriber base eager for high-speed Internet services,' he adds.

The Nokia D50e is a flexible, two-stage ATM-transmission based DSLAM platform which allows operators to offer a complete range of DSL technologies, including ADSL and g.SHDSL from a single system. Working with Nokia's other IP (Internet Protocol) products, the Nokia D50e helps operators to establish an optimum DSL broadband access system, taking the Broadband industry from fast internet access to interactive media and streaming video services.
