BALTIMORE, Md., Aug. 17, 2001 (PRIMEZONE) -- Northrop Grumman Corporation's (NYSE:NOC) Electronic Sensors and Systems Sector (ES3) today announced two senior-level executive appointments, effective immediately.
Kelly C. Overman has been appointed vice president-Business Development and Strategy, a newly created position. Dr. Taylor W. Lawrence has been named vice president and general manager, Systems Development and Technology Division, succeeding Mr. Overman. Both positions report to ES3 president Robert P. Iorizzo and will be based at ES3's Baltimore headquarters.
Mr. Overman, who joined the company in 1968, has held a number of management and executive positions in digital systems, intelligence programs, electronic combat, avionics and battle management. His experience includes assignments with the F-22, B-2, B-1, AWACS, F-16, Apache and C-130 programs, as well as special intelligence, sonar systems and deep space probes.
In 1989, Mr. Overman was appointed general manager of Systems Development and Engineering, and in 1995 was named general manager of the Systems and Technology Division. Since 1998, he has served as vice president and general manager of the Systems Development and Technology Division.
The holder of five U.S. patents, Mr. Overman has written and presented on subjects ranging from signal processing to entrepreneurial organization. He received his bachelor's degree from the University of Arkansas and an M.S. in electrical engineering from the University of Pittsburgh.
Dr. Lawrence, who recently served as vice president-Products and Technology, joined Northrop Grumman in 1999 following a distinguished career with the U.S. government. From 1988 to 1994, he held several positions responsible for advanced technology development with Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory.
In 1994, Dr. Lawrence was named director of Advanced Technology for the Defense Airborne Reconnaissance Office at the Pentagon and, in 1996, was appointed deputy director of the Information Systems Office at the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency. Before joining Northrop Grumman, he served as staff director of the U.S. Senate Select Committee on Intelligence.
Dr. Lawrence has more than 20 scientific publications, including journal articles, book chapters and invited conference papers. He holds a bachelor's degree in physics from the California Institute of Technology and an M.S. and Ph.D. in applied physics from Stanford University.
