Birla Tata AT&T chooses Nokia as supplier of GSM network in Delhi


Birla Tata AT&T, the fourth GSM operator for Delhi, and Nokia have signed an agreement for the delivery of GSM infrastructure and professional services. Under the agreement, Nokia will become the complete systems supplier for Birla Tata AT&T's GSM 1800 network, including the GSM and GPRS core network, radio-access network, Intelligent Network (IN), Mobile Internet systems and value-added services.

Nokia will also provide implementation and technical support services to Birla Tata AT&T. Deliveries will start in November 2001, and the launch of the network is scheduled for early 2002.

The Nokia GSM 1800 system will come with state-of-the-art, future-proof products with EDGE and 3G compatibility. The IN (Intelligent Network) system provides a smooth evolution path to prepaid services for GPRS and 3G.

Birla Tata AT&T will be able to provide value-added services using Nokia's Mobile Internet offerings, which include the Nokia mPlatform, Nokia USSD (Unstructured Supplementary Services Data) Centre, and messaging solutions such as the Nokia SMSC (Short Messaging Service Centre) and NAMP (Nokia Artuse Messaging Platform). This is the most significant Mobile Internet deal for Nokia in India to date.

Nokia has been a long-standing supplier of Birla Tata AT&T since providing GSM 900 equipment in 1996.
