F.L.Smidth wins expansion project in Spain

Cementos Atlantico, S.A., part of the Cementos Portland Group, has placed an order with F.L.Smidth, a member of the FLS Group, for the expansion of its Alcalá plant located near Seville, Spain. The value of the contract covering equipment and engineering services was not disclosed.

The order will be booked as income on a pro rata basis until 2003, following the deliveries of engineering services and equipment. It will have no effect on the projections for this year's earnings.

F.L.Smidth is to expand the production capacity of the plant in Alcalá de Guadaira by 1,000 tonnes per day to a total production of 3,800 tonnes of clinker per day.

The contract recently signed comprises machinery and equipment, engineering and commissioning services. The new production facility is designed with state-of-the-art technology.

The scope of supply consists of a TUMS 5,4 x 12 meter ball mill for grinding of raw material, a 4-stage calciner string, modification of the existing rotary kiln, a SF Cross-Bar cooler, and conversion of an existing raw mill to coal mill.

The order is a result of the longstanding relationship between the Cementos Portland Group and F.L.Smidth which dates back to the nineteen twenties.

The project also reflects the continuous growth in Spain, which has resulted in this country being one of F.L.Smidth's main markets in Europe.
