Cleaning and Kids Can Go Hand-in-Sock?

Tips for Getting Kids to Help Around the House

NEW YORK, Oct. 17, 2001 (PRIMEZONE) -- As the summer starts winding down, kids often get bored and a little 'antsy.' Why not put them to work helping you around the house? Getting them involved in the dirty work can be easier than you think.

The cleaning experts at Murphy Oil Soap offer the following tips to make cleaning easy for you and fun for the kids.

Getting into "their" music is a good compromise. Play rock n' roll, country or whatever type of music your kids or teens like, and turn it up!

Kids love a competition. Make it a game for the kids to see who can put their toys away the fastest.

With close supervision, even kids as young as 6 years old can lend a hand. Find an old pair of socks and spray some Murphy Oil Soap on them. Then, slip the socks over their hands like sock puppets. Let the kids can run them over those low-to-the-ground, hard-to-reach spots such as lower kitchen cabinets and baseboards.

Set goals to strive for -- make a list of tasks for each child. When all of the tasks are completed, it's time to celebrate! It can be dinner at their favorite restaurant, a bag of candy or a rental movie of their choice for the night.
