Nokia introduces new server product for the smooth take off of new mobile services

The increasing number of advanced mobile services, such as mobile internet access via WAP, GPRS, multimedia messaging, mobile e-mail and personal information management, require service-specific parameter settings in mobile devices. For example, configuration parameters for enabling WAP access include dial-in number, WAP gateway IP address, and homepage URL. With the Nokia Terminal Management Server, operators will be able to provide automatic delivery of various new service settings directly to mobile handset users, thus helping the rapid take off of new services in a convenient and user-friendly manner.
"The Nokia Terminal Management Server will improve the quality and adoption of new mobile services, such as GPRS-based services. Users will be able to enjoy new services right from day one and will not be intimidated by often fairly complex settings management. For operators, the introduction of new services will become increasingly easy with the help of the new server as it can send the setting parameters to a large number of subscribers upon a single request. This will increase revenue streams, reduce help desk costs, and increase the usage of services," said Timo Poikolainen, Marketing Director, Mobile Software, Nokia.
The Nokia Terminal Management Server will also support the automatic provisioning of new mobile devices. For example, when a user purchases a new phone supporting multimedia messaging, the server will detect the new phone in the network and offer to send new MMS detting parameters to the phone. The user can then simply accept the offer , the configuration will be set and the MMS service will be ready for immediate use. Provisioning can also be initiated by end-users and retailers, in addition to operators.
