Nokia introduces freshly-styled, wireless Internet-enabled phone for the stylish set

IRVING, Texas - (January 24, 2002) - With a cutting-edge new design setting it apart from its predecessor, the highly successful Nokia model 8260, the new Nokia model 8265 phone is Nokia's newest entry in the fashion category. Designed for the style conscious and socially active consumer, the Nokia 8265 phone includes new features such as user-changeable Xpress-onÔ color covers, a mobile Internet browser
(WAP 1.2.1), picture messaging and expanded capacity for downloadable ring tones. Shipments are expected to begin during the second quarter of 2002.

"As TDMA carriers upgrade their networks towards the 3rd generation by implementing GSM, GPRS and EDGE technology, exciting new TDMA products like the Nokia 8265 offer operators an opportunity to take advantage of existing TDMA voice networks." said Pekka Vartiainen, senior vice president of sales for Nokia. "As the leading manufacturer of TDMA handsets, Nokia can continue to offer desirable, cost-effective products for carriers who wish to fully utilize their existing network resources."

Reflecting the latest trends in color, four optional new accessory Xpress-on color covers are being offered in orange, pink, purple and light blue. Coordinated keypads and display lenses that produce a colorful glow when the phone's backlight is activated accent the new covers and add appeal to the stylish target market. For an additional measure of personalization, the Nokia 8265 phone has space for ten downloadable ring tones, which can be selected from an Internet site and sent over the air to the phone.

"As the first manufacturer to recognize the demand for stylish, colorful and personal wireless phones, Nokia also understands that fashion changes rapidly." said Alastair Curtis, group design director for Nokia. "The Nokia 8265 exemplifies the bold new directions in design that Nokia has become known for taking."

An integrated wireless Internet browser, two-way text messaging and picture messaging take advantage of increasingly popular services beyond just voice communications, offering users additional ways to access information and to keep in touch with friends, family and colleagues. A timesaving predictive text input feature minimizes the number of keystrokes needed to enter text on the Nokia 8265 keypad.
