AppForge enables Visual Basic developers to extend applications to Nokia Communicators

ATLANTA - (Feb. 5, 2002) - AppForge, Inc. and Nokia (NYSE: NOK) will co-operate to enable the Visual Basic developer community to create applications for the Nokia 9200 Communicator series. The software from AppForge will help Visual Basic Developers to easily extend their existing mobile applications to run on the Nokia 9200 Communicator series as well as rapidly develop new applications for them.

"Nokia's collaboration with AppForge immediately brings a significant variety of applications to the Nokia Communicator for enterprise companies around the world and opens the door for thousands more as Visual Basic developers can easily extend their applications," says Doug Armstrong, CEO of AppForge. "With the addition of the Nokia Communicator, AppForge applications will now run on over 90% of PDA devices shipping today."

"Applications are critical for selling mobile data devices in the Enterprise market," says Senior Mobile Computing Analyst Bill Crawford of US Bancorp Piper Jaffray. "With Nokia, AppForge immediately extends thousands of existing enterprise applications to the Nokia Communicator, instantly increasing the value proposition to prospective customers. AppForge allows Visual Basic developers within a company an easier way to mobilize existing applications."

Nokia began shipping the Nokia 9200 Communicator series first in Europe and Asia, and the North American version, the Nokia 9290 Communicator, is expected to be available during the first half of this year. The Nokia 9200 Communicator series combines enterprise applications, including a Word and Excel editor and a PowerPoint viewer, with a phone, WWW web browser, fax, e-mail, calendar, and multimedia capabilities.

"This co-operation is all about productivity in the enterprise," said Lee Wright, who heads Nokia's developer efforts throughout the Americas. "By working with AppForge to ensure that their application platform works with our Communicators, we'll see greater productivity in two ways: First, by cutting the time to deploy existing mobile applications on Communicators, we'll anticipate greater productivity in development teams. Second, enterprises can recognize even greater productivity improvements as new applications are developed that take full advantage of all of the advanced capabilities of the Nokia Communicator."

AppForge expects to release their new version of AppForge Professional, which will include support for the Nokia 9200 Communicator series, in June, 2002.

Since its original release in 1999, more than 50,000 developers have used the AppForge tool to deploy more than 2,500 mobile applications. Enterprises using AppForge today include Pfizer, Honeywell, Johnson Controls, CompuCom, Snapper, Inc. and Bell Canada. With AppForge, developers can write applications using Visual Basic and run those applications on multiple mobile and wireless platforms.

"ClientLink has evaluated a number of potential technologies for our clients and find AppForge to be a leader in this area.",says Jim Hamilton, President of ClientLink, a division of CompuCom. "We are excited about the integration of AppForge with the Nokia Communicator for enterprise-scale wireless solutions. This solution offers clients robust wireless applications built in Visual Basic for rapid implementation and lower ongoing support, leading to an improved return on investment for the client."
