Nokia and Macromedia Collaborate to Integrate Macromedia Flash Player with Nokia Mediaterminal

(Helsinki, February 6, 2002) Nokia and Macromedia, Inc., announced today that the Macromedia Flash Player will be integrated into the Nokia Mediaterminal, an innovative infotainment device that seamlessly combines digital video broadcast (DVB), full Internet access, personal video recorder (PVR) technology and gaming.

The latest offering in Nokia's family of products designed for the home environment -- the Nokia Mediaterminal --turns the family TV into a multifunctional entertainment center and is Nokia's first digital convergence product for the home. It combines all the functionality of digital television and the Internet into a home entertainment platform and is based on open source technologies such as Linux.

The collaboration between Macromedia and Nokia enables the over one million designer and developer members of the Macromedia Flash developer community to leverage their existing skills to create unique applications for Nokia's home entertainment environment. The Macromedia Flash Player offers the smallest rich client in the industry-with advanced graphic effects, MP3 audio playback and sophisticated interactivity enabling a broad range of rich content and applications to be deployed. By enhancing the Nokia Mediaterminal's ability to deliver an engaging user experience, Macromedia Flash enables the delivery of a wide array of applications and services including interactive advertising, electronic programming guides, and personalized commerical services directly to consumers in their living room.

"The Nokia Mediaterminal home entertainment platform enables consumers to receive and seamlessly interact with the digital information streams that surround them, " said Hanno Narjus, general manager, Mediaterminal Products, Nokia Home Communications. "By incorporating Macromedia Flash in the Nokia Mediaterminal, consumers can take full advantage of today's leading content, services and applications on the Internet, ultimately making a more enjoyable, convenient and well-connected lifestyle possible."

"With Macromedia Flash Player on the open standards-based Nokia Mediaterminal, Macromedia and Nokia are providing developers and digital media providers with an affordable way to rapidly author and deliver rich content and applications to consumers," Peter Meechan, vice president, Macromedia. "The versatility of the Macromedia Flash authoring tool provides a flexible way for digital media providers to quickly deliver uniquely tailored offerings and content providers to offer the interactive content that distinguishes their services."

The Nokia Mediaterminal is currently available in Sweden. For more information on the Mediaterminal, please visit http://www.nokia.com/multimedia/mediaterminal.html.
