KING OF PRUSSIA, Pa., March 12, 2002 (PRIMEZONE) -- Neoware Systems, Inc. (Nasdaq:NWRE), the leading supplier of award-winning software, services, and solutions for the Appliance Computing market, today announced that Northern Constabulary, the police service for the North of Scotland, has standardized on Neoware's Eon thin client appliances. Northern Constabulary has deployed Neoware appliances to local offices in the first phase of a multi-phase deployment.
Northern Constabulary, established in 1975, provides police and protection services for Northern Scotland. Headquartered in Inverness, this local government agency has over 80 offices spread throughout the 15,000 square mile jurisdiction which service a population of nearly 280,000 people.
Northern Constabulary needed to replace outdated personal computers as well as add additional desktops for their growing staff. They required access to specific Windows-based software applications, which run on servers using Microsoft Windows Terminal Services and Citrix(r) MetaFrame(r). Northern Constabulary needed to integrate their current Windows-based and legacy operating systems, Intranet, email, and desktop applications into one state-of-the-art computing architecture. Neoware's software and thin client appliances allow Northern Constabulary to use all of their existing systems, have an integrated Intranet browser and email, and eliminate the need for desktop visits to deploy applications, significantly lowering total cost of ownership.
Northern Constabulary had experienced the obsolescence problems associated with personal computers and wanted a new computing architecture that would not need to be replaced in a few years. Because Neoware's software supports multiple operating systems including Windows CE, Windows NTe, Windows XPe, and Linux, Northern Constabulary has the ability to easily migrate from one operating environment to another, should their needs change. Unlike personal computers, Neoware thin client appliances have no fans, hard disks, or other moving parts that can fail, fitting Northern Constabulary's requirement for a product that is physically strong and reliable. Neoware's products are virtually maintenance free, are simple to manage, and install in minutes, making Neoware thin client appliances a very cost-effective solution.
Northern Constabulary supports over 80 offices spread throughout Northern Scotland, thus remote administration was a critical factor in their choice of thin client appliances. Neoware's ezRemote Manager, an enterprise-class suite of management tools, allows Northern Constabulary to drive down their administration costs by enabling them to remotely discover, configure, update, manage, and administer machines two to three hours away, all from one central location.
"Neoware and Appliance Computing have changed the way we do business. In particular, Neoware's software has made us much more productive through reduced downtime and ease of use," stated Neville Lee, IT support team leader for Northern Constabulary. "Neoware's ezRemote Manager software has made technical support far easier, which is critical given the size of our force. When we need computing appliance support in the future, we will turn to Neoware."
