GOTHENBURG, Sweden, April 25, 2002 (PRIMEZONE) -- Fingerprint Cards AB has sold a worldwide, non-exclusive license to Global Biometric Corporation, New York. The license is limited to Fingerprint Cards' Lofberg patent. The licensee intends to use the patent for development of biometric enabled smart cards.
The Lofberg patent describes the design of an authentication system directly integrated in a data carrier, which may come in a number of forms such as, but not necessarily, a chip card. Both enrolment and verification take place in the data carrier. The patent describes specifically the integration of a fingerprint sensor, microprocessor and relevant algorithms for storing and matching fingerprints in the data carrier. All operations for verification of identity are carried out in the data carrier and the system is PC independent.

Fingerprint Cards AB (publ) is listed on the O-list of Stockholm Stock Exchange. The company has developed a complete finger verification system that can be implemented in small units. This technology comprises two microchips and software developed in house, which are completely independent of a PC for storage, scanning and matching of finger patterns. www.fingerprints.com
Global Biometric Corporation is a privately held technology and product development company founded to consolidate technology development and strategic marketing for a biometrically controlled smart card, a development that has lead to the creation of the ID Plus token, a self- contained ID token with enhanced functionality and communications ability, designed to work with existing infrastructure. Because the ID token is self-contained, self-powered and constitutes a fully distributed system that eliminates the need for a centralized database, it provides enhanced security and tamper-resistance, resistance to identity theft, as well as addressing privacy concerns (the biometric data never leaves the token). The token's open platform architecture and robust processing power easily accommodates hosting of third-party applications. www.globalbiometric.com.
