ESPOO, Finland, May 6, 2002 (PRIMEZONE) -- The European Commission has selected TietoEnator for its "Managing Information Resources for e-Government" project (MIReG). The aim of the project is to find ways to organize information and documentation on parliamentary and legislative work in a way that improves transparency and accessibility.
Democracies are continually confronted with demands for ever-greater dialogue between electors and elected. The explosion of internet-based systems has increased the possibilities and range of such dialogue. Many parliaments are examining how to manage information and documents in a way that improves transparency and access, while permitting greater understanding of the democratic process.
Therefore, the European Commission has asked, as part of the IDA Program's (Interchange of Data between Administrations) Mireg banner, TietoEnator to make a reality of this need and to organize information and knowledge in a way that is accessible and understandable. The duration of the project is six months.
The project will look at IT standards, vocabularies and tools to create, manage and find information.
"The interoperability between IT systems allows greater co-operation between different institutions. This is the key in building new services in the emerging information society," said Ms Anne Ivanoff, Director at TietoEnator N.V. Brussels.
