LINKOPING, Sweden, May 31, 2002 (PRIMEZONE) -- Today at 13:00 CET, the new Center for Diagnostic Imaging at Sodersjukhuset, Stockholm, is officially opened. The Center for Diagnostic Imaging is an entirely paper and film free radiology department, and Sectra was chosen as main contractor for the extensive digitization project.
Princess Christina (Mrs. Magnusson) will conduct the official opening ceremony of the Center for Diagnostic Imaging, which is in full digital production with the support of Sectra's system for handling digital X- ray images; PACS (Picture Archiving and Communication System) and system for handling administrative patient information; RIS (Radiology Information System). In April 2000, Sectra was entrusted with the confidence to be the main contractor for the entire digitization, a responsibility that includes delivery and integration of radiology equipment and the hospital's different IT support systems as well as project management and training of all personell.
"We chose Sectra as main contractor because they have, in previous similar projects, showed extensive competence in project management and a great understanding for radiology operations and the problems we face in our everyday work," said Soren Orehag, project manager for the Center for Diagnostic Imaging.
Every year, 120,000 radiology examinations are performed at Sodersjukhuset, and with entirely digitized operations, efficiency as well as diagnostic quality are expected to increase.
"In spite of the system being completely new to all personnel, we were back at normal production levels already the second day after digitization, which is far better than we expected," said Lena Cavallin, head of the radiology department at the Center for Diagnostic Imaging.
"It was a great challenge for us at Sectra to manage a project of this magnitude. A prerequisite for the success was that Sectra's systems have a flexible and modular design, which enabled us to custom fit a solution to the special needs of the Center for Diagnostic Imaging," said Torbjorn Kronander, president of Sectra Imtec.
Dr Torbjorn Kronander will be available for further information at Sodersjukhuset during the opening ceremony.
