LOS ANGELES, July 18, 2002 (PRIMEZONE) -- Occidental Petroleum Corporation (NYSE:OXY) today announced that Walter L. Weisman, a private investor and past chairman and chief executive officer of American Medical International, Inc., a multinational hospital management firm now part of the Tenet Healthcare Corporation, was elected to fill a newly created seat on its board of directors. Mr. Weisman joins 8 other independent, outside directors and 2 members of management who comprise the current board.
Mr. Weisman, 67, also is a Director of Fresenius Medical Care (Frankfurt, Germany), the world's largest provider of dialysis products and renal services, and Community Care Health Network, Inc. (New York), a provider of administrative services to physicians.
In addition, Mr. Weisman is involved in a variety of civic, philanthropic and educational endeavors, including serving as Chairman of the Board of Trustees of both the Los Angeles County Museum of Art and the Sundance Institute, Vice Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the California Institute of Technology and a Trustee of the Public Broadcasting Network (PBS) and the Kress Foundation.
