VANCOUVER, British Columbia, Aug. 1, 2002 (PRIMEZONE) -- Snowfield Development Corp. (TSX Venture Exchange:SNO) is pleased to announce that it has completed the detailed helicopter borne multi-frequency Electromagnetic (EM) survey announced on July 19, 2002. This survey was carried over the Gten-1, 2, 3 and 5 claims currently under option from Diamonds North Resources Ltd, Mike Magrum and Brian Weir, together with the Gten -16 claim (details regarding these claims are described in Snowfield News Releases dated May 14 and June 18, 2002). The claims are located in the Drybones Bay area approximately 46 kms southeast of Yellowknife (NWT).
The survey utilized Meridian Geoscience's Hummingbird Electromagnetic/Magnetic survey system. The system is a multi frequency in-phase and quadrature EM system utilizing three coplanar and two coaxial coils. The coplanar frequencies are 980, 6600 and 34000 Hz. The coaxial frequencies are 880 and 7000 Hz respectively.
The purpose of the EM survey over the Gten-1, 2, 3 and 5 claims was to establish whether or not the (25 plus) magnetic targets, previously identified, were also EM anomalies. This data is currently being interpreted; a preliminary analysis of this detailed data (50 meter line spacing) appears to indicate that approximately half of the magnetic targets show an EM response. A number of EM anomalies have also been identified with no associated magnetic signature. Further work is planned on this data set. This work will include resistivity depth sections and EM inversion modeling.
Additionally, the survey tested the diamondiferous Drybones Kimberlite pipe, located in the center of the survey area, to determine the EM signature of the pipe. North-south lines were flown across the pipe with the eastern portion of the pipe being flown using a line spacing of 100 meters and the western portion being flown with 50 meter line spacing. The reason for the 50 meter line spacing was to attempt to delineate a possible satellite pipe lying just to the south west of the main pipe. A preliminary interpretation of this EM data shows a large positive response from the large Drybones kimberlite on all frequencies and coil configurations (coplanar and coaxial). Each facies in the pipe appears to have a unique EM signature. The possible satellite pipe to the southwest also returned a positive EM signature. This target is located in a small bay at the southwest end of Drybones Lake. The Drybones Kimberlite is currently under option to New Shoshoni Ventures Ltd..
Based on target confirmation data derived from the EM survey, Snowfield has initiated a follow-up till sampling program, both up-ice and down-ice, from specified targets on the Gten-1, 2, 3 and 5 claims and on the Gten 16 claim.
