New Nokia IP350 and IP380 Network Security Appliances Deliver Unmatched Performance, Protection for Small- to Medium-Sized Enterprise Offices

Mountain View, Ca - (August 20, 2002) - Nokia (NYSE:NOK) today announced the addition of the Nokia IP350 and IP380 to its family of high performance network security appliances. Focusing on the requirements of small- to medium-sized enterprise offices, the Nokia IP350 and IP380 offer a single rack unit system with greatly improved VPN, firewall, and intrusion protection performance, as well as increased ease of serviceability.

Developed in collaboration with Nokia's security partners, the IP350 and IP380 are optimized for Check Point Software Technologies(TM) (NASDAQ:CHKP) market-leading VPN-1®/FireWall-1® Next Generation(TM). Nokia appliances integrating VPN-1/FireWall-1 deliver superior security and reliability and have been certified as "Secured by Check Point." Alternatively, the Nokia IP350 and IP380 serve as powerful intrusion protection appliances when configured with Internet Security Systems' (ISS) (Nasdaq: ISSX) RealSecure® software for Nokia.

"Nokia's next generation IP300 product series combines the best features of earlier Nokia platforms to set a new standard for the small- to medium-sized enterprise office," said Dan MacDonald, Vice President of Product Management and Marketing, Nokia Internet Communications. "Unlike competitive security offerings that focus on single aspects of your business security needs, the Nokia IP350 and IP380 address a business' need for a complete, flexible security platform that is scalable and serviceable as well as fast and secure."

Leveraging performance technologies jointly developed by Nokia and Check Point, the Nokia IP350 and IP380 offer up to 400 Mbps and 600 Mbps of FireWall-1 throughput respectively. For VPN communications, the IP350 delivers 3DES VPN-1 throughput of 60 Mbps with its on-board encryption chip, while the IP380 can reach out-of-the-box VPN-1 throughput of 90 Mbps. Additionally, VPN-1 performance of up to 130 Mbps can be achieved on the Nokia IP380 with an optional Nokia encryption acceleration card. The Nokia IP380's high-speed, small-packet performance delivers unmatched efficiency for real world mixed traffic situations.

"We are pleased to see Nokia announce the new Nokia IP350 and IP380 appliances," said Asheem Chandna, vice president of business development and product management of Check Point Software Technologies. "These new Nokia IP300-series appliances, with Check Point's VPN-1/FireWall-1, provide small- to medium-sized enterprise office customers with an expandable, versatile platform for establishing the highest levels of Internet security."

The versatility of the Nokia IP350 and IP380 also allow for implementation as dedicated intrusion protection platforms. "The Nokia IP350 and IP380, together with our proven RealSecureâ technology, offers an unbeatable intrusion protection solution that answers network security professionals needs for both maximum performance and cost-effectiveness," said Steve Gant, vice president, Solutions Management and Business Development, Internet Security Systems.

"Nokia's IP appliances have been the standard security solution for Countrywide Home Loans over the last year," said Mike Cunningham, Executive Vice President, infrastructure of Countrywide Home Loans. "Currently, we are beta testing Nokia's new IP350 and IP380 and are very pleased with the price performance, multiple interfaces and ease of use that Countrywide has come to expect in all Nokia's security appliances."

With the Nokia IP350 and IP380, customers can leverage the four integrated and fully routable Ethernet ports or populate the system with up to two option slots with dual-port Ethernet or serial WAN cards.
Both appliances include Nokia's latest purpose-built IPSO operating system with virtual LAN (VLAN) capability, able to accept and generate 802.1q VLAN tagged packets. This functionality is significant for any customer who wishes to use VLANs to segment departmental or divisional traffic through a common security infrastructure. Additionally, the Nokia IP350 and IP380 are supported by the Nokia Horizon Manager 1.2, Nokia's purpose-built secure network management tool that enables remote rapid deployment, maintenance and recovery with extensive visibility of the entire security network.

The Nokia IP350 and IP380 are currently available worldwide except Japan, where they will ship later this year.
