ESPOO, Finland, Aug. 21, 2002 (PRIMEZONE) -- TietoEnator has been assigned by Returpack AB to develop a solution for communication with reverse vending machines. The solution will provide new opportunities to follow up the recycling handling in Sweden. The order value is approximately SEK 2.5 million.
Returpack is responsible for the Swedish administration and deposit system for recycling of aluminium cans and recoverable PET bottles. The operations presuppose effective information handling. With TietoEnator's M2M solution (Machine to Machine) Returpack will now have better access to the information stored in the machines and this will enable both checking and control of the recycling handling. It will also be possible to send information to the machines in a more flexible way than previously.
"The solution is strategically important for us since it means that we have greater opportunities to automate and improve our information handling. The new system is also better adapted to the requirements of other interested groups and can, for example, be integrated with the chain stores' other systems. TietoEnator produces a total solution for us. The previous M2M project that we carried out together has shown the great ability to combine commercial benefits with spear head technology and this has been the basis for our choice of TietoEnator as supplier," said Jan Rehnberg, MD of Returpack.
"It is exciting to see how M2M communication can improve operations. When all groups have access to correct information the recycling handling becomes both cheaper and safer. There is no doubt that M2M creates great opportunities for making things more efficient within many different companies. We notice that more and more customers demand total solutions and that the customers' focus is more and more on commercial benefits that they can enjoy," said Mikael Carlsson, M2M Solution Center, TietoEnator.
TietoEnator's M2M Solution Center offers customers a total solution, from requirement analysis and business development to system integration and operation.
In Sweden today there are approximately 6000 reverse vending machines in 4000 stores. The recycling requirement for aluminium cans and recoverable PET bottles is 90 percent. Returpack works continually in the activation of households and other groups to collect return packaging and increase returns for deposit items. The company is owned by the packaging industry, the trade organizations and the breweries.
