STOCKHOLM, Sweden, Sept. 23, 2002 (PRIMEZONE) -- The IT security company, Protect Data (Stockholm:PROT), has received a new order from EDB Teamco for information security solutions that will form part of the solutions the company offers its customers in the banking sector. The order is worth approximately NOK 5 million. Delivery and invoicing will take place continually from September to December this year.
"This contract is a sign that Scandinavian banks are still drawing considerable benefit from these security solutions. It seems the introduction of PKI solutions and digital signatures will have to wait," said Frank Horntvedt, President of Protect Data AS.
Protect Data has long focused on the banking sector and is experiencing steadily increasing demand for information security solutions in this segment throughout Scandinavia. This is particularly true in Norway, where Protect Data's solutions have already been integrated in Sparebank 1, Terra-Gruppen, Nordea (K-bank) and Den Danske Bank (Fokus Bank), for example. In Sweden, the company's solutions have been supplied in large volumes to e.g. ForeningsSparbanken and Ostgota Enskilda Bank's Internet banks.
Protect Data and EDB Teamco started collaborating in 1997. Since then, Internet usage among EDB Teamco's customers in the banking sector has increased steadily and the company has noted greatly increased demand. The most recent agreement with Protect Data has been entered into to handle the increased number of Internet bank users.
"This agreement is one of many relating to the Scandinavian banking sector. This is a clear sign that most Scandinavian banks still prefer these security solutions, while the use of PKI solutions and digital signatures appears to be slow in coming," said Frank Horntvedt.
"Protect Data has played a major role in the development of several Norwegian Internet banks. The collaboration with EDB Teamco is further positive confirmation of our range of products and solutions in the field of information security," said Thomas Bill, CEO of Protect Data.
The security solution makes it possible for the user to identify him or herself by entering a PIN code on his or her password generator and thereby achieving a secure digital identity. The password generator is produced by ActivCard and supplied by Protect Data on the Nordic market. It is a flexible solution that can be used in most systems where the users communicate with central applications. For example, the system has the advantage that it also works with a large number of users, such as at ForeningsSparbanken in Sweden. Furthermore, the user is not tied to one place, but can carry out his or her banking transactions from any computer with an Internet connection.
