Why: Mayor John F. Street's vision for information technology has
come to life as powerful Internet-based eGovernment tools,
wireless technology, and state-of-the-art mapping systems
revolutionize how the City of Philadelphia does business.

The event is the official relaunch of www.phila.gov, the City of Philadelphia's Web site. The updated site will include new eGovernment tools that empower residents and businesses by providing access to information and services, including the means to research property values and track L&I inquiries.

The Mayor's Commission on Technology (MCOT) will premier their monthly Web cast featuring e-Workforce efforts from throughout the city.

Already hard at work bringing City departments and data together is a powerful Geographic Information System (GIS). Geospatial data is created and maintained in various City departments such as Police (crime information), Streets (street centerline), Records (parcels) and Planning (zoning) and are cooperatively shared through a distributed, integrated and networked system coordinated and warehoused centrally at MOIS.

At the Philadelphia Technology Showcase, visitors can experience these and technology initiatives from the Philadelphia Police Department, Department of Revenue, Department of Licenses and Inspections and many others that will strengthen residents' access to services, grow business, encourage tourism and transform neighborhoods.

The Philadelphia Technology Showcase is being presented by Hansen Information Technologies, Novell/Cambridge, TEK Systems and Oracle. It is being sponsored in part by Accenture, ARAMARK Corporation, ESRI, ETeam, IBM, Innovation Philadelphia, iXP Corporation, Klehr, Harison, Harvey, Branzburg & Ellers, Mara Management Services, and Nortel Networks. Also by CDM, Computer Horizons, Inventa, PrimeZone Media Network, RCG Information Technology, Software AG, Sprint, Szabo Consulting, UNYSIS, Veridyne, Inc., Wolf Block Schorr and Solis-Cohen LLP and Xerox. The Showcase is being supported by Apple Computers and Media Bureau Networks.
