At the Broadband World Forum in Berlin, Germany, Nokia is showcasing a truly integrated solution that will allow operators to bring mobility to their broadband service offering today. The Nokia demonstration shows how broadband operators can enjoy the first benefits of a converged service portfolio that can provide subscriber, terminal and service mobility across their broadband networks.
The show demonstration network combines the Nokia D500 multiservice access broadband platform, the Nokia Operator WLAN Access Point and Controller, Nokia Intelligent Edge solutions and the Nokia Authentication Server into a network that shows how broadband operators and service providers can introduce mobility services to their broadband subscribers.
“As broadband operators look to improve the profitability of their service offerings, introducing mobility into the portfolio will allow greater access for subscribers and thus greater revenue potential for operators, “ says Ari Lehtoranta, Vice President, Broadband Systems, Nokia Networks. “Converged services are an as-yet untapped revenue generator for broadband fixed operators.”
Subscriber, terminal and service mobility using username/password authentication and personal user profiles demonstrates how users can access their service from any location, whether on their own wired or wireless PC/laptop at home or on a friend’s PC/laptop elsewhere. Even if the friend has a lower service level, Nokia’s solution allows users to access their own service level.
The Nokia demonstration network also shows how user mobility can be achieved based on roaming using SIM authentication. A mobile subscribers who have no fixed broadband account can still access their SIM-based services via their own or a friend’s PC/laptop terminal if the subscriber’s mobile operator has a commercial agreement with the fixed network operator.
