Northrop Grumman Names Alene Kaufman Newport News Vice President, Chief Information Officer


NEWPORT NEWS, Va., Nov. 11, 2002 (PRIMEZONE) -- (WITH PHOTO) Northrop Grumman Corporation's (NYSE:NOC) Newport News sector today announced the appointment of Alene (Leni) Kaufman as vice president and sector chief information officer.

Kaufman has responsibility for establishing the IT strategic direction and the day-to-day leadership of all information systems at Newport News. In this position, she reports to Tom Shelman, vice president and chief information officer of Northrop Grumman, and to Tom Schievelbein, Northrop Grumman corporate vice president and president of its Newport News sector.

"We are very pleased to have Leni join us," said Schievelbein. "Her background and considerable experience in a high technology manufacturing environment make her a great addition to the Newport News team."

Prior to this promotion, Kaufman served as a program director for the Integrated Systems sector located in Melbourne, Fla. She began her career with Northrop Grumman in 1979 and has held several leadership positions of increasing responsibility that include project manager of integrated solutions, manager of software engineering and technical specialist of manufacturing systems.

Kaufman earned her bachelor's degree in professional studies at Barry University, Miami, Fla. She also holds a Software Engineering Institute Level II & III certification and is a member of the American Production Inventory Control Society and the Project Management Institute.
