SANDUSKY, Ohio, November 14, 2002 (PRIMEZONE) -- For everyone who is overwhelmed by the increasing demands of modern living, there is a simple way to take it easy and enjoy the things that really matter most. All we need to do is listen and respond to God's subtle reminders -- the warm embrace of a loved one, the cheering smile of a dear friend or the infectious laughter of kids down the street. Author Ethel Thames taps all of these small miracles in "Love: Precious Moments In Time" (now available through 1stBooks Library).
Thames is a first time author who dabbles in lots of things: sketching, collecting sports cards and old cameras, and, of course, writing. However, it is interesting to note that Thames is already a grandmother who, as is evidenced by her inspiring love poems, remains young at heart.
In the poem "I Thought of You," Thames beams with exuberance and excitement like a 16-year-old girl falling for Ricky Martin. Thames writes, "I thought of you, again, my dear,/ As I do everyday./ I transfer myself into your mist/ To look upon your face --/ For the light, the warmth,/ The love you exude; Your gentle style and grace..." Yet, the poem is far from juvenile. Instead, it speaks to the greatest gift of all -- love.
The blissful and self-assured tone of Thames' lyrical verses also finds its way into her other literary works, strangely enough even those with somber themes such as "Safe in Heaven"; in this moving poem about death, she writes, "Each one of them left home that morning;/ Whatever the reason- they had to go./ They knew that day was different--/ Something inside told them so." etc.
Thames' undaunted optimism clearly reflects her faith in God. Thames was born and raised in Jackson, Mississippi. She graduated from Jackson State College and taught school a few years until she got married and moved to Sandusky, Ohio where she currently resides.
