The Nokia D500 next-generation broadband access platform has been chosen by Guangdong Telecom for the expansion of DSL services to several cities in Guangdong province. Guangdong province is recognized as one of the most economically and commercially advanced provinces in China and has an estimated population of more than 60 million inhabitants.
Nokia will provide both the D500 and the D50e DSLAM solutions to expand broadband coverage for Guangdong Telecom. Deliveries will commence before the end of 2002.
"Guangdong Telecom chose the Nokia D500 next generation broadband access platform due to its capabilities in providing a high-density multi-DSL interface and connectivity solution. And due to its flexible network design with cascade feature enabling maximum utilization of our existing network resources," said Mr Cai Kang, General Manager, Enterprise & Development Department, Guangdong Telecom.
"This is a very important agreement for Nokia in broadband access, and we are very pleased to continue and expand our existing relationship with Guangdong Telecom, as this underlines the strengths of both the D50e ATM-based DSLAM and the D500 next-generation broadband access platform," says Mikko Harju, Director, North APAC, Broadband Systems, Nokia Networks. "We look forward to helping connect the people of Guangdong province to the full potential of high-speed data and media-centric services."
