Santa Monica Playhouse to Celebrate Co-Artistic Directors; Chris DeCarlo, Evelyn Rudie Give Combined 60-plus Years to Their ART

SANTA MONICA, Calif., Jan. 6, 2003 (PRIMEZONE) -- Friends of Santa Monica Playhouse announce a very special theatrical celebration on January 17, 2003 to commemorate the 30 years of co-artistic directorship of Evelyn Rudie and Chris DeCarlo.

For 30 of its 40-year history, Santa Monica Playhouse has been nurtured and guided into the beloved community resource that it is today by these two talented and dedicated artists.

"They have given us much more than we can ever repay," said ART Company member and conservatory teacher Gray Silbert, "and we would like to invite all of the past, present and current Playhouse friends and family and supporters to join us on this night in their honor."

The evening will be centered around the closing night performance of Anton Chekhov's "The Boor" and Eugene Ionesco's "The Lesson," the one-act combination which first opened the Santa Monica Playhouse doors 40 years ago.

Starring Actors' Repertory Theater (ART) founding members Rudie, DeCarlo and John Waroff, and joined by Kristin Folk and Gray Silbert, the production is based on original direction by the late Ted Roter, Playhouse founding director. Legendary playwright Eugene Ionesco himself called this production "Magnifique!" and DeCarlo was awarded the Beverly Hills Outlook "Actor of the Year" award for his dual performances of Chekhov's Smirnov and Ionesco's The Professor.

Multiple Emmy award-winner Dr. Carole Lieberman will be on hand to moderate the post-show discussion. Lieberman has spent more than a decade analyzing the psychological impact of world events as a guest and host on all major media outlets. Lieberman's multi-dimensional career as an internationally renowned "Media Psychiatrist" is always cutting-edge.

The audience is invited to attend the anniversary party at the Playhouse following the show. The curtain is at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $30 (or more) and all proceeds go to the Save The Playhouse Campaign and are tax-deductible to the fullest amount allowed by law. For tickets and information call 310-394-9779 x1 or visit us on the Web at www.SantaMonicaPlayhouse.com.
