LAKELAND, Fla., January 21, 2003 (PRIMEZONE) -- "Frogtown" (now available through 1stBooks Library) is a fictional tale located in a town where the good, the bad and the ugly try to co-exist with one another; it's where the wealthy and famous live on one end, and the Mafia, drug dealers and whores on the other end. Author Jon LeMay concocts a rich tapestry of events, focusing on the fictional setting of a Kansas City suburb, called Frogtown.
"Frogtown" narrates the emotional journeys of a rookie cop and professional prostitute. Brent walks a beat there and meets two beautiful, blonde women in a known bordello named The Greek Goddess. Susan tries to seduce him, while Caroline slowly realizes that she is attracted to Brent. The seedy characters he encounters surprise Brent's naivete. The escalating crime in Frogtown alarms him but he can't get any form of assistance from the department, other than Josee, a policewoman from downtown. They try to restore order, only to find a more serious crime.
Brent is just an honest cop doing his job, until he is shot and left to die. After weeks in a coma, he awakens and finds Caroline at his side. She has been there throughout his ordeal and nurses him back to health. Consequently, they fall in love with each other. While Brent is utterly depressed, because his ability to become a law enforcement officer again is seriously hampered, he finds consolation in the thought that his father has left him a ranch worth millions. There, Brent moves in with Caroline and finds complete satisfaction. Then he is invited back to Frogtown, where the residents bestow honors upon him because of the difference he made in their lives.
Former police officer Jon LeMay has earnestly portrayed a cop's courage in putting order back into the streets. Partly based on the author's own experiences, "Frogtown" also describes the heartbreaking lives of the women who cross Brent's path. The author shifts the mood of the story smoothly, swinging from subtle humor to utter despair. Amidst the rough-and-tumble of the town, the prevailing atmosphere still emanates feelings of love and desire.
LeMay wrote "Frogtown" in a cabin in northern Minnesota. The author spent 30 hard-earned years as a member of the Hennipen County Sheriff's Department in Minneapolis. He retired from the ranks as a lieutenant. He now lives in Lakeland, Fla.
